NFL Week 14 Injuries: Greg Jennings Suffers Scary Knee Injury

Greg Jennings and DeMarco Murray were among the big name players injured in NFL Week 14. SB Nation’s Medical Expert examines those and other injuries from Sunday.

Greg Jennings, WR, Green Bay Packers (knee)

Jennings, the leader of the Packers' wide receivers corps, suffered a left knee injury early in the third quarter of Green Bay's 46-16 drubbing of Oakland and did not return to action. Jennings hurt the knee when being tackled on a short reception, limped off the field and was carted to the locker room for further evaluation. The injury preliminarily has been called a sprain, and the severity and prognosis will be further determined following testing early this week. With Jordy Nelson and James Jones in the fold at WR, the Packers are already deep at the position, but if he sits out games due to the injury, Jennings' presence will be missed both on the field and in fantasy leagues.

DeMarco Murray, RB, Dallas Cowboys (ankle)

Murray fractured his right ankle on a running play in the first quarter of Dallas's devastating loss to the New York Giants on Sunday night and is likely out 6-8 weeks at a minimum, ending his season unless the Cowboys somehow mount a long playoff run. There is little information regarding the exact nature of the fracture at this point, although early reports indicate it is accompanied by a high ankle sprain as well, which itself is a slow-healing injury. With the Cowboys facing a short week prior to Saturday's matchup with the Buccaneers, Felix Jones will now get the start in Week 15 for a team that's looking to rebound from a shocking turn of events on Sunday night.

Matt Hasselbeck, QB, Tennessee Titans (calf)

Hasselbeck strained his left calf in the second quarter of Tennessee's 22-17 loss to New Orleans when attempting to knock down a batted pass and was replaced by rookie QB Jake Locker. Hasselbeck was in noticeable discomfort following the play, and then again when forced to return for a single down in the fourth quarter, after Locker himself was taken out due to injury. Recoveries from calf injuries depend largely upon the degree of the strain, with a first-degree injury involving microscopic tears to the muscle fibers, and second- and third-degree injuries including partial and complete tears of the entire muscle, respectively. In a best-case scenario, Hasselbeck could return next week against Indianapolis; however, a second- or third-degree tear could require multiple weeks for a full recovery.

Kevin Kolb, QB, Arizona Cardinals (head)

The Cardinals' QB, who missed time earlier in the season with a turf toe injury, suffered concussion-like symptoms after sustaining a hit to the head on the team's first drive against San Francisco and was replaced by John Skelton for the remainder of the game. Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt said after the contest that Kolb was woozy following the hit and was held out following an evaluation by team physicians. Kolb's status for next Sunday's game against Cleveland will depend upon neurological testing to be performed this week.
