Johnny Knox Injury Update: Back Surgery Needed For Bears WR

Johnny Knox will have surgery to stabilize his lower back on Monday after a scary hit left him motionless on the turf during Sunday’s matchup between the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks. Knox was taken from a field on the cart and transported to a local hospital after the hit for further tests and observation. It was later determined that surgery was needed to stabilize his back, which was bent at a horrific angle during a freak collision early in Sunday’s game.

There is good news for Knox, however. Despite the injury and forthcoming back injury, his prognosis appears to be good at this point.

He has a “positive prognosis for his career and quality of life,” according to the Bears. The surgery is scheduled for Monday.

“He has total movement throughout his body, has total use of all his extremities, which is good,” coach Lovie Smith said. “We’re doing tests right now. He has total movement. He’s not paralyzed or anything.”

The injury will keep Knox away from football activities for at least a month, if not more.
