NFL Injury Report, Week 13: Michael Turner, Ahmad Bradshaw Questionable

As the NFL’s Sunday and Monday night games approach, SB Nation Medical Expert Dr. Ali Mohamadi discusses some of the most significant remaining injuries impacting this weekend’s games and how they might affect your fantasy rosters:

Quarterbacks

Josh Freeman, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (shoulder - questionable)
TB (4-7) vs. CAR (3-8), 1pm

Freeman injured his right (throwing) shoulder on a quarterback sneak during last week's loss to Tennessee and has been limited to light throwing in practice this week. Although Freeman is listed as questionable on the team's injury report, Head Coach Raheem Morris has deemed him a "game-time decision," and backup Josh Johnson has received the reps with the starting unit this week. This would likely result in fewer targets for WR Mike Williams, although RB LeGarrette Blount may see more carries if Johnson gets the start.

Running Backs

Ahmad Bradshaw, New York Giants (foot - questionable)
NYG (6-5) vs. GB (11-0), 4:15pm

Bradshaw has not played since Week 8, when he sustained a fractured right foot. playing a "will he or won't he" game about his status for several weeks running now, it appears the Giants' RB may be ready to take the field tomorrow against the undefeated Packers after practicing yesterday for the first time in over a month. If the Giants err on the side of caution and give Bradshaw the day off, the rushing duties will once again be in the hands of Brandon Jacobs and D.J. Ware.

Michael Turner, Atlanta Falcons (groin - questionable)
ATL (7-4) @ HOU (8-3), 1pm

Turner has been dealing with a nagging groin injury and missed practice this week until yesterday, when he was limited to light work. He is listed as questionable on the team's injury report for tomorrow's game against Houston, although given the high likelihood of aggravation, his status will likely be determined based on his ability to make it through today's practice. If he can't go, backups Jason Snelling and Jacquizz Rogers would likely split carries for the Falcons.

Kevin Smith, Detroit Lions (ankle - questionable)
DET (7-4) @ NO (8-3)

Smith saw limited action in the Lions' Thanksgiving Day loss to Green Bay due to an ankle injury suffered the previous week and has been limited in practice this week. However, all indications are Smith will see a full workload tomorrow at New Orleans, which will come as good news for a Detroit team that will need to keep the high-octane Saints offense off the field as much as possible.

Wide Receivers

Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons (hamstring - probable)
ATL (7-4) @ HOU (8-3), 1pm

Although Jones returned to action in Week 12 from a nagging hamstring injury that has been an issue since mid-season, he was held catchless in the Falcons' win over Minnesota and has been limited in practice this week. He is listed as questionable for tomorrow's game against the Texans, but is expected to play. As Jones has already proven this season, hamstring injuries are prone to re-injury, and Falcons fans are undoubtedly holding their breath that their rookie WR will be able to make it through the remainder of the season without any further setbacks.

Linebackers

Ray Lewis, Baltimore Ravens (toe - questionable)
BAL (8-3) @ CLE (4-7), 4:05pm

Lewis, has missed the Ravens’ past two games due to a turf toe injury after not having missed a single one since 2007, has returned to practice this week, although in a limited fashion. He is officially listed as questionable for tomorrow’s divisional matchup with Cleveland. Turf toe refers to inflammation and stretching of the ligaments and/or tendons of the large toe, due to trauma and most commonly when the toe is suddenly bent upward, resulting in redness, swelling, and pain. This can result in difficulty bearing weight on the affected toe and can take weeks to resolve, as has been the case for Lewis. Treatment is usually supportive, consisting of rest, ice, and anti-inflammatory medications.

Von Miller, Denver Broncos (thumb - questionable)
DEN (6-5) @ MIN (2-9), 1pm

The rookie Miller, who is starting to gain some attention as a potential defensive player of the year candidate, tore ligaments in his right thumb in last week's win over the Chargers and underwent surgery to repair the damage earlier this week. Miller has been wearing a cast this week in his limited action in practice. It appears he will play tomorrow at Minnesota, but his time may be limited to pass-rushing situations.
