2011 NFL Draft News: Colin Kaepernick, Cam Newton, Broncos, Ravens And NFL Combine

The 2011 NFL draft is over two months away but the news, mock drafts and scouting reports have been flowing in for some time. Here are five stories to check out on the 2011 NFL draft:

-Live chat with Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick. This is pretty cool. SB Nation's Jaguars blog, Big Cat Country, hosted a live chat with QB Colin Kaepernick. Who knew he grew up a Packers fan? Must be a good week for him.

-Could Denver Broncos trade down? Unless there's a rookie wage scale, it's hard to see someone putting together the package to A.) acquire the Broncos second overall pick and B.) paying the ridiculous amount of money to the second overall pick. Unless you're going after a quarterback, it's hard to justify giving up significant draft picks to move up in the draft.
-Ravens could be looking at a QB in the 2011 NFL draft. They're obviously not talking about a first round quarterback -- they already ruled that out -- but possibly someone in the mid rounds as a backup to QB Joe Flacco. Behind him they have Hunter Cantwell and Marc Bulger, who is set for free agency (if it ever comes).

-We should wait until the Combine for mock drafts. I know it’s draft season and people go crazy over it but it’s not until the Combine that we start to have a better idea of what players are rising, whose interested in who, etc. Of course, people will never wait until the Combine to do their first mock draft. ESPN’s Todd McShay has his latest out and there’s been quite a bit of movement since his last one...even though no games have been played.

-Teams have Cam Newton ranked how high? Tony Pauline of SI.com and Draft Insiders reports that six teams have Newton ranked as the top overall player on their board. Not best quarterback -- best player. The quarterback race is coming down to Newton and QB Blaine Gabbert. One of those two will be the first quarterback taken though it’s hard to pinpoint which team is most likely to pull the trigger.
