The 2011 NFL draft is still a couple of months away but with the Super Bowl over we’re now in full draft mode. Here are a few draft-related stories to check out this morning including a story on protesting the NFL Combine, one rising QB who will workout at the Combine and QB Jake Locker’s baseball prospects.
2011 NFL Draft News: Jake Locker In Baseball, QB Colin Kaepernick And NFL Combine
-The NFLPA is using various tactics to get their message across to the NFL and to the fans -- ‘Let us play’ which is their way of protesting against the NFL owners imposing a lockout. One possible tactic is boycotting, or at least protesting, the NFL Combine, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports: “Cole says that while a boycott may be a long shot, momentum for a protest is growing. In particular, a source told Cole that NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith is “warming to the idea” of disrupting the combine.”
-In the last few years we’ve noticed that if a player’s draft stock is rising, they may think about skipping the NFL Combine so as to not do anything to negatively affect their stock. That apparently won’t be happening with QB Colin Kaepernick, whose agent tells Pro Football Talk he will be doing a full Combine workout.
-QB Jake Locker could consider baseball. This is complete speculation and a guess but Locker was drafted by Angels in the 10th round of the MLB draft. Mocking the Draft’s idea is an interesting one: “Lets say the NFL gets locked out and he attends spring training and starts knocking the ball around the park and is an ace in center field. What then? Should Locker take a chance at baseball for a few years?
