NFL Owners, Players Union Enter Fourth Day Of Collective Bargaining Negotiations With Mediator

The NFL and NFL Players Association continue to meet with a federal mediator in hopes of reaching an accord on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, according to the Associated Press. This is the fourth consecutive day of negotiations in Washington, D.C., and is a sustained period of negotiations between the league and the NFLPA after months of public squabbling.

After months of infrequent — and sometimes contentious — bargaining, the league and union have met for a total of more than 20 hours since Friday in front of George Cohen, director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.

“We are working hard,” NFL general counsel and lead labor negotiator Jeff Pash said, “and we’re following the director’s playbook, and we’ll see what we come up with.”

The NFLPA and NFL are looking to broker a deal before the current labor agreement expires at the end of the day on March 3. This is reportedly about the halfway point of this current round of negotiations; the NFL and NFLPA had previously agreed to seven straight days of negotiations in hopes of averting a lockout or labor stoppage.
