Checking out the various 2011 NFL mock drafts out there I haven’t come across very many that have QB Jake Locker going much higher than midway through the first round. Locker’s accuracy questions throughout college will likely hurt him in April but NFL Network analyst Jim Mora disagrees.
Could Jake Locker Make His Way Into Top 10 Of 2011 NFL Draft?
In fact, Mora has in his latest mock draft Locker going to the Washington Redskins with the 10th overall pick. Though Mike Shanahan has the reputation of a quarterback guru, I'd be very surprised if this is where Locker went. In explaining his pick, Mora seemed to recognize that this was a bit of a "homer pick" for him.
Also of note in his mock draft is Nick Fairley falling to the Cleveland Browns at the sixth pick, which is a little lower than some have him going. Defensive end is said to be the safest pick in this draft -- it's also the deepest position -- so perhaps Fairley loses out because of that.
Mora also has three total quarterbacks going in the top 10. Cam Newton goes to the Buffalo Bills with the third pick and Blaine Gabbert goes to the San Francisco 49ers with the seventh pick.
Both of those seem plausible but Locker to Washington with the 10th pick seems less likely.
