Vikings’ Ray Edwards Stepping In Boxing Ring, Too
"It's something I've always wanted to do in my life," Edwards said during a break in his training at Higher Power Training in Eden Prairie. "I can't put my eggs all in one basket, waiting for the NFL to settle the lockout. You never know when this lockout is going to end."
His boxing paychecks won’t be like his football paychecks but, hey, it’s something.
He’s signed up for two professional fights with the first one paying him $5,000 and 50 percent of the gate. That fight will take place on May 20 and there will be another one in June, if the lockout is still going on, with the same terms. The Vikings placed a tender on him, which would pay him an estimated $3.5 million next season, so his football paychecks would be over $20,000 (before taxes).
Boxing is one of the few sports that may actually be more dangerous than football
