The NFL offseason isn't generally filled with much actual football news so some stories tend to get some extra play in the news cycle. That's the case with Baltimore Ravens LB Ray Lewis on Wednesday after he recently suggested on NFL Network that he likely won't be playing much longer past his 37th birthday.
Ray Lewis Retirement Questions Pop Up
Lewis was asked if he would be around long enough to play with his son, who is currently in high school.
“That’s another four years!” Nah,” Lewis said. “Because I’m real with myself, that would be a very hard task. I can’t see myself playing football past 37.”
Of course Lewis won’t be playing much longer. He’s 35 years old and coming up on his 36th birthday next month. He’s been in the league for 15 years and players whose positions require collisions on nearly every play rarely play that long.
But because it’s the offseason, and the news doesn’t flow like it does from September to January, Lewis’ retirement in two years is big news.
