The Pittsburgh Steelers used a first round pick on QB Ben Roethlisberger in the 2004 NFL draft which means he's entering his eighth season in the NFL. Speaking to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette this week, Roethlisberger suggested he's only about halfway through his career meaning he could player for another eight or nine seasons.

“Lord willing, I hope so. This will be my eighth. I mean 16 years is a long, good career. Eight years is long considering the normal life expectancy in this game. If I’m lucky enough and my body’s still intact and that’s what I’m supposed to do, I’ll play as long as I can. I’d like to call it halfway.”
He’s been to three Super Bowls winning two of them. Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana hold the NFL record with four Super Bowl titles apiece. If Roethlisberger played another eight seasons, I wouldn’t be surprised in the least bit if he tied Bradshaw and Montana.
But surpassing them? Three more titles in the next eight years?
That seems like an awfully loft goal. The Steelers, though, are one of the most consistent teams in the league so, if any franchise could do it, it’d be Pittsburgh.
Simply staying in the NFL for another eight years would be surprising for Roethlisberger. He generally doesn’t leave a game without some grass stains on his jersey because his style gets him hit (and hit hard). Avoiding injury for that long would be impressive -- with or without the Super Bowl titles.
