Jon Gruden Is Fine After Plane Is Struck By Lightning

I bet you didn’t expect to read a story about Jon Gruden, a plane and lightning but that’s what we’ve got for you today. Gruden, the former Bucs head coach, was scheduled to leave Tampa Bay on a flight to Chicago last Thursday. During the flight, Gruden says he heard a strange noise.

“All of a sudden, the woman next to me asked, ‘Did you hear something?’ ” Gruden said Monday. “I told her I definitely heard a weird noise. You could sense something was up. Then the flight attendant came on the speaker and said we got hit by lightning.”

Yeah, that’s a little scary. They made an emergency landing in Orlando and Gruden headed back home. He was scheduled to speak at an event along with Illinois coach Ron Zook but called him after the incident and said he couldn’t make it.

I can’t imagine many things worse than hearing the word “lightning” while on a plane at 30,000 feet.

Except maybe Jon Gruden on Monday Night Football.
