Shortly after Jim Harbaugh and the San Francisco 49ers traded up to select QB Colin Kaepernick in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft, Kaepernick received a call from Harbaugh's former quarterback, Stanford QB Andrew Luck.

The topic of discussion, of course, was Kaepernick working with Luck’s former coach. With the NFL lockout in place, Kaepernick can’t learn Harbaugh’s offense straight from the man himself. So he’ll turn to Luck to help him get started. Via Sacramento Bee:
"I'm going to try and pick his brain as much as I can and try to get a jump-start into this offense, and pick up as much as I can from him."
If the lockout stays on, then Luck may be one of the few that can help Kaepernick. No access to the coaching staff severely hampers your ability to understand an offense.
This is why rookie quarterbacks are among those hurt the most from the NFL lockout. They’re not like any other position where you can take a peek at a playbook and get a solid understanding of the offense. You need time with the coaches to understand the nuances of an NFL offense and Kaepernick won’t have that which will decrease any chances he has of starting early.
Even Harbaugh seemed to agree a rookie needs more than just a playbook to get started in the NFL.
"I think it's better than not having the playbook, but it does need to be coached, explained. It needs to be interactive, questions being asked, questions being answered."
Kaepernick is moving to Santa Clara -- only about 15 minutes from Luck -- which will help facilitate this playbook lesson.
