Roger Goodell Says NFL Lockout Will Help Fans

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell talked to another set of season ticket holders this week updating them on the status of the lockout and addressing any concerns they had. Tampa Bay Buccaneers season ticket holders had the opportunity to ask Goodell questions and one noted that this whole process is leaving the fans feeling left out in the cold.

Goodell, though, said that’s not the case. In fact, he says the lockout will help the fans.

“We can’t continue to shift the cost, whether it’s the rising player cost or the rising cost of operating an NFL franchise, on to our fans,” he said. “That’s why we’re trying to get a better economic model. And I think everyone understands that. You are not being left out of the equation. The fans are a big part of that equation and a big part of the success of NFL football.”

I think we all know what he means. He’s saying the lockout will result in a better economic model that will slow down the rising cost of tickets, which would ultimately help the fans. That’s his interpretation of it at least.

But it’s just not good timing for a statement like that. Fans are fed up with both sides and any indication that football being taken away from us if for OUR benefit is incredibly annoying and frustrating to hear as a fan.

I think I would trade rising ticket costs for, you know, some actual football games.
