Former California offensive lineman Donovan Edwards has joined the San Francisco 49ers, according to reports. An undrafted free agent, Edwards announced the news via Twitter late Monday night.
San Francisco 49ers Signs Cal Undrafted Free Agent Donovan Edwards
A six-foot four-inch, 294 pound 22-year old from Richmond, Edwards played in 34 games during his three seasons at California, starting 18 at right tackle. In 2010 he was one of only two Golden Bear offensive lineman to start all twelve games, and was the winner of the University’s Ken Harvey Award for special academic commitment and improvement.
After graduating to little fanfare from NFL scouts, Richmond worked tirelessly to add significant strength to his frame and reach 300 pounds by the eve of the draft. While he failed to hear his name called draft day, Richmond impressed enough with his combine performance and diligent work ethic to garner meaningful interest from multiple teams, according to sources.
