According to NFL.com reporter Jason La Canfora, reporting via twitter, former San Fransisco 49ers cornerback Nate Clements has agreed to a deal with the Cincinnati Bengals. Terms of the deal are not yet available. Clements should be a direct replacement for cornerback Jonathan Joseph, who left the Bengals in free agency.
Nate Clements Agrees To Deal With Cincinnati Bengals: Report
Clements signed a massive eight-year, $80 million contract with $22 million guaranteed with the 49ers back in 2007. Clements has been respectable in his time with San Fransisco, starting every game since joining the team, but he’s failed to live up to the previous play and big expectations that won him his massive contract.
The 49ers were believed to have been chasing Nnamdi Asomugha, who has since signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. San Fransisco have a big hole at cornerback now, but Cincinnati will be happy that they've come as close as they could have possibly hoped to replacing Joseph like for like.
