John Fox Hints At His Pick For Denver Broncos Quarterback

Broncos head coach John Fox recently spoke to the Denver Post about what he's looking for in a quarterback. Keeping in mind that the Broncos' quarterback competition is, practically speaking, a two-horse race between Kyle Orton and Tim Tebow (sorry, Brady Quinn), here's what Fox had to say.

“I prefer a gamer to a good practice player... I want someone who will execute under pressure in a game.”

[I]n Fox’s new office at the northwest corner of the second floor in the Dove Valley complex, there is a large depth chart displayed in a shallow cabinet with doors that can be locked ... The names at quarterback in order from top to bottom are: “Kyle Orton,” “Tim Tebow”, “Brady Quinn”.

Who knows what to make of that? The “gamer” comment could mean Fox prefers Tebow, but it also could simply be a way of saying that he wants whoever’s going to help him win right now, in 2011. Fox also indicates that he has a top candidate in mind, and of course his depth chart does have Orton at the top.

SB Nation Denver seems to think that Fox’s comments could indicate a preference for Tebow, but points out that this is all pretty academic right now. Whatever Fox currently thinks will matter a lot less when he’s able to see Orton and Tebow in practice, and thanks to the NFL Lockout, it could be a while before that happens.
