NFL Free Agency: Seattle Seahawks Sign Brett Johnson

The Seattle Seahawks have reportedly agreed to terms with free agent free safety Brett Johnson.

The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to terms with free agent free safety Brett Johnson, according to reports by Seattle's Curtis Crabtree. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Johnson was a standout free safety throughout his collegiate career at California. By his junior year, the 24-year-old worked had his way up from a mere special teams player to the starting safety and leader of the Golden Bears’ defense.

In 49 college games -- and only 22 starts -- he amassed 107 tackles and three interceptions to catch the eye of NFL scouts. He further turned heads at California’s pro day, recording a 4.30 40-yard dash, 42.5-inch vertical, and a 10-foot-9-inch broad jump.

Despite his many accolades, Johnson found himself undrafted after the 2010 NFL Draft. He was signed by the St. Louis Rams and quickly released, before catching on with the Buffalo Bills. He spent just three weeks with the Bills until his contract expired and the team chose not to extend the deal.
