President Obama Moves Speech To September 8th, NFL Fans Freak Out

Thanks to some political maneuvering that you can go read about elsewhere, President Barack Obama has decided to schedule a speech to a joint session of Congress on September 8th at 8 p.m. EDT.

That's worth noting here on a sports site because the Green Bay Packers open the 2011 NFL season against the New Orleans Saints the evening of September 8th as well.

The game is to be broadcast on NBC and scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m., which doesn’t include the massive amount of pre-game programming that NBC surely has planned. Considering NBC would normally drop everything to broadcast a Presidential speech to a joint session of Congress...this could get ugly.

In a move made for corporate synergy, the powers-that-be could just send viewers to MSNBC or CNBC for the President and keep the NFL broadcast. That also means NBC would likely be the only major network not to be broadcasting the speech. Such a move could very well be a ratings gold mine.

If NBC does decide to preempt the NFL opener, which fans have been waiting desperately for ever since the lockout ended...well, Obama might want to steer clear of Twitter for a few hours after that announcement.

Also, given that Obama is a die-hard Chicago Bears fan, expect the Green Bay Packers fan conspiracy theories to start up right...about...now.
