NFL Scores Week 1: Chris Johnson Quiet As Titans Fall To Jaguars

The Jaguars held on for a win against AFC South rival Tennessee.

The Jacksonville Jaguars released veteran quarterback David Garrard before their Week 1 match-up with AFC South rival Tennessee, then played the game in some of the hottest conditions the Jags have ever seen. No sweat: they still came away with a 16-14 win over the Titans in the closest game of the 2011 NFL season so far.

Maurice Jones-Drew paced the Jaguars, as usual, gaining 97 yards on the ground and scoring a touchdown, while Luke McCown, thrust into the role of starter after Garrard's release, completed 17 of 24 passes for 175 yards. Kicker Josh Scobee made three field goals for Jacksonville.

The Titans, meanwhile, couldn't quite rally back after a very slow start. Matt Hasselbeck threw for 263 yards and two touchdowns, but playmaker Chris Johnson didn't quite live up to his hefty new contract, collecting just 49 combined rushing and receiving yards. Receiver Kenny Britt had a stellar day, with five catches for 136 yards, and he caught both of Hasselbeck's scoring throws.
