Michael Vick Injury Update: Eagles QB Could Play Sunday, According To Team

Michael Vick's injury on Sunday Night Football looked like it could keep him out for an extended amount of time, especially when he the television cameras caught the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback spitting up blood on the way to the sideline. The latest updates indicate that he might not even miss a week's worth of action and could play the Eagles' Week 3 game against the New York Giants if he passes the NFL-mandated concussion tests.

“Eagles quarterback Mike Vick still will have to pass his concussion tests,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter wrote on Twitter early Wednesday morning, “But the Eagles believe he should be able to play Sunday.”

The concussion tests are an important addition to the NFL’s policies as they look to protect players from long-lasting brain injuries, a problem many NFL players have dealt with following their playing careers. The fact that it seems Vick is healthy enough to play this week if he’s able to pass those tests makes it seem likely that Eagles’ doctors think there is a chance Vick is healthy enough to indeed be cleared to play this weekend.

If that happens, it would be excellent news for everyone involved -- including Vick's fantasy owners. When Vick suffered the concussion, caused by a hit from a Falcons' defender that whipped the Eagles quarterback into his own offensive lineman, it seemed as though Mike Kafka might be starting in Philadelphia for the foreseeable future.

As of Wednesday morning, however, it looks like the Eagles’ franchise is back on track with its franchise quarterback.
