Cam Newton, Aaron Rodgers And Ryan Fitzpatrick Among NFL Monthly Award Winners
NFC Players of the Month: Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers; Dallas Cowboys LB Sean Lee; Detroit Lions K Jason Hanson.
Rodgers, who leads the league in completion percentage (71.8), is an obvious choice, although you could argue New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees deserves mention. Lee had a terrific month which included two interceptions, including one in the Cowboys' Monday Night Football victory over the Washington Redskins. Hanson set an NFL record this month playing in his 297th game with the Lions, the most for any player with one franchise.
AFC Players of the Month: Buffalo Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick; Cleveland Browns LB D'Qwell Jackson; Oakland Raiders K Sebastian Janikowski.
Fitzpatrick is the surprise of the NFL, as are the 3-0 Bills. He has nine touchdown passes in three games this month. Jackson missed the last 26 games before this season and becomes the first Browns player to win the award in 17 years. Janikowski’s month is best remembered for him tying the NFL record for longest field goal.
NFL Rookies of the Month: Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton; Washington Redskins LB Ryan Kerrigan.
Not a bad start for either guy. Newton passed for over 400 yards in his first two career starts -- both losses -- and came back to win his third career start for the 1-2 Panthers. Kerrigan’s career got off on the right foot when he returned an interception for a touchdown in his first game.
