Saints Vs. 49ers, NFL Playoffs 2012: Saints Have Won Six Straight Over 49ers

Thanks to many years spent as rivals in the old NFC West, the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints are no strangers to one another. The two teams have met 71 times, with the 49ers holding a 45-24-2 edge in an all-time series that included two annual games from the 1970 merger right up until 2001, the season before the NFL realigned to eight, four-team divisions.

Saturday afternoon will be the first time the two clubs will meet in the playoffs.

Lately, the regular season series has been dominated by the Saints. Winners of nine of the last 11 meetings, the Saints have won all six meetings since realignment and are averaging 31 points per game doing so for an average margin of victory of 12.2 points per game.
