The Detroit Lions aren't entering the NFC Wildcard game against the New Orleans Saints on a very high note. They allowed 45 points and nearly 500 yards passing last weekend to the Green Bay Packers and backup quarterback Matt Flynn. The secondary was torched in what's becoming a problem for the team.
NFC Wild Card 2012: Lions Secondary Under Scrutiny As Drew Brees And Saints Loom
Lions coach Jim Schwartz spoke to the media this week and indicated that the Lions simply can not play like they did last weekend when it comes to the secondary.
“We obviously have to play better than that if we want to advance,” Schwartz said. “You can’t ignore it. It certainly happened. I’ve been a part of times when you have an effort like that and you just say, ‘Hey, that wasn’t us and you move on.’
The Lions are playing the NFL’s most prolific single-season passer in Drew Brees. He broke Dan Marino’s record for passing yards in a single season (shattered it, actually) and so the biggest test for the Lions this weekend is to A.) figure out what the heck happened last week against the Packers and B.) fix it.
