Todd Bowles Could Get An Interview With St. Louis Rams

The St. Louis Rams are interested in interviewing Miami Dolphins interim head coach Todd Bowles as part of their search for a long-term replacement for fired head coach Steve Spagnuolo, Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

An assistant head coach/secondary coach with the Dolphins, the 48-year-old Bowles became the interim head coach last month after the firing of Tony Sparano. The Dolphins were 2-1 under Bowles, including a 19-17 win in Week 17 that eliminated their AFC East rival New York Jets from playoff contention.

Bowles was formally interviewed for the Dolphins’ head coaching position earlier this week.

A former NFL safety with Washington Redskins and San Francisco 49ers, Bowles spent two years in the Green Bay Packers' personnel department before beginning his NFL coaching career in 2000 as the defensive backs coach with the New York Jets. Bowles has also worked as the defensive backs coach with the Cleveland Browns (2001-04), and was the secondary coach on Bill Parcells' staff with the Dallas Cowboys before following Parcells and Sparano to the Dolphins in 2008.

Former Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher is believed to be the favorite to the land the Rams' coaching job. Interviewing Bowles, who is African-American, would bring the Rams into compliance with the Rooney Rule, which requires them to interview a minority candidate for a head coaching vacancy.
