Lions Vs. Saints 2012: Detroit Strikes First, Take 7-0 Lead

The Detroit Lions are heavy underdogs entering the NFC Wild Card game against the New Orleans Saints but apparently no one told them that. The Lions came out on their first drive and drove 80 yards in 4:02. Matthew Stafford completed 5-of-6 passes for 70 yards and Detroit looked like they were the 10-point favorites.

The Lions started things off quickly on their first drive. Seven yard run by Kevin Smith. 22 yard pass to Calvin Johnson. Eight yard end around by Titus Young. Stafford continued hitting Johnson and Young quickly moving into the red zone before capitalizing with a touchdown pass to the tight end. Johnson and Young combined for 60 yards on the drive.

It’s early but the Lions have the lead over the Saints, 7-0.

The Saints are heavy favorites in this game by anyone you ask and probably for good reason -- they haven’t lost at home all year and they’re currently riding an eight game winning streak. That said, this Lions offense is one of the few teams that can have a shot at matching the Saints explosiveness offensively.
