Bengals Vs. Jaguars, Week 4: Changes wanted in Jacksonville after another tough loss

The outlook in Jacksonville is not strong after another disheartening loss against a weak foe.

Jake Roth-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The Jacksonville Jaguars again could not keep up with the competition, dropping their third contest in four to open the season in a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, a loss that has some of the Jacksonville faithful looking for major overhauls to the team just a quarter of the way through the season.

As with most team overhauls, the first though might be to change the offense’s leader, the quarterback, but over at Big Cat Country, the guys are convinced that’s not the trouble behind the slow start to 2012.

The 27-10 loss to the Bengals was far from Blaine Gabbert’s fault, as the second year quarterback actually completed a higher percentage of passes than he ever has since assuming the starting role for the team early in the 2011 season. ... Is it time for Gabbert to get yanked from the starting lineup? No, that would solve nothing.

The blame, according to the blog, should instead fall squarely on the effort of the defensive front and the offensive line, two squads with positive outlooks headed into the showdown with the Bengals.

Rashean Mathis and the Jaguars defense struggled to stop A.J. Green and the Bengals running offense, and an offensive line that was supposed to be solved with the return of Eben Britton and Cameron Bradfield looked far from satisfactory.

Change seems the only solution for the bloggers, who were certainly not pulling punches after the loss.

Not minor changes like signing a wide receiver in free agency and trading up in the NFL draft to take another, but dramatic, sweeping changes like firing general manager Gene Smith and moving on without Gabbert.
