Jake Long is not surprised by Ryan Tannehill and the Dolphins’ success

Dolphins offensive tackle Jake Long thought Miami had a talented team early on, so the fact that the Dolphins are playing well at this point in the season doesn’t seem to surprise him at all.

Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Jake Long said he’s been telling people since training camp that the Dolphins have talented players, so at least for him, it comes as no surprise to see his team just one game out of the AFC East division lead behind the New England Patriots.

Despite a 2-3 record so far this season, the Dolphins’ dropped two of their games in overtime on game-winning field goals. The season opener against the still-undefeated Houston Texans is the only game Miami was never in this season.

Even with Tannehill's six interceptions compared to two touchdown passes this season, Long seems pretty confident in his quarterback, saying this on WQAM with Joe Rose in Miami:

“He’s been great so far, and very impressive. Just the way he came in and carried himself and the confidence he had, he knows the offense inside and out. And when we’re out there on the field, he’s the leader of that offense. He commands respect in that huddle and goes out there and plays great. It’s pretty impressive to watch. ... He’s going to be a star in this league for a very long time.”

Long was also asked about the difference between this year’s offense than last year’s, since there has been a coaching change. He said it was definitely the zone schemes:

“I think the running game has been helping and definitely the pass game. If we give Ryan time, he’s going to pick guys apart and our receivers are getting open. ... I think we’re clicking right now, but there’s definitely a lot of things we’ve got to improve on.”
