Cowboys vs. Ravens, Week 6: Ravens’ defense has work to do

In a high-scoring contest, the Baltimore Ravens pulled out a 31-29 win as the Dallas Cowboys failed to convert on a last-second field goal attempt.

While Baltimore’s offense produced 31 points and 481 total yards, there is concern on Baltimore Beatdown over the lack of defense on Sunday afternoon.

The problem on defense for the Ravens centered on stopping the Cowboys’ running game. Dallas racked up 227 rushing yards on 42 attempts for a 5.2 yards-per-carry average. Baltimore was uncharacteristically beaten in the trenches more often than not, and had trouble bringing down the ball carrier all game.

I’m not sure how many missed tackles there were for Baltimore. I’m not sure how many yards the Cowboys gained after initial contact. However one thing I am sure about is that the Ravens have lost the ability to perform a fundamentally sound tackle.

The Ravens' run defense hasn't been as stout this season and part of that might be due to new defensive coordinator Dean Pees. Injuries have also been a factor with players like Terrell Suggs, Jarret Johnson and Cory Redding out of action.

Baltimore will look for a better defensive effort next week when it faces the Houston Texans.
