Jonathan Vilma says he’s ‘allowed to play’ on Sunday against Bucs

Suspended New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma said he will be allowed to play in Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay.

New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma said late Sunday night that he will be allowed to practice this week and expects to play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

Vilma also filed a motion Monday in a Louisiana court to vacate his suspension, which was originally supposed to last all season.

Although Vilma has an appeal pending within the framework of the NFL’s labor agreement, the linebacker argues that (NFL commissioner Roger) Goodell has continued to abuse his power and demonstrate bias, leaving no hope for a fair process that would respect Vilma’s “industrial due process rights.”

Vilma, 30, played in 11 games for the Saints last season. The linebacker racked up 39 solo tackles and 18 more assisted tackles. He also had four fumble recoveries, including one that went for a touchdown.
