DeMarco Murray injury: Cowboys fear ligament damage, status unknown

Unable to finish out Sunday's game with the Ravens after a first-half injury, Dallas Cowboys tailback DeMarco Murray may have suffered ligament damage in his foot according to a report by Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com.

X-rays on the second-year back's injured foot were negative after the game, and results of an MRI that was set for Monday morning have yet to be released. Although he did manage to come back and record one carry in the second half after suffering the injury late in the second quarter, it's clear that Murray's injury could end up being worse than originally anticipated.

Now that the Cowboys are forced to turn to Felix Jones, Phillip Tanner and Lance Dunbar if Murray is unable to suit up in the near future, this news comes at the worst possible time for a Cowboy offense that can't seem to find consistency. The organization could opt to hit the free agent market for depth depending on Murray's exact timetable, but right now it appears that veteran Felix Jones will get the first crack at the starting gig after racking up 92 yards on 18 carries against Baltimore. Even though the team does not appear to be concerned about Murray dealing with a possible season-ending Lisfranc injury according to the report, there's still no denying how significant a blow this looks to be for Dallas right now.
