Pierre Garcon injury: Redskins WR ‘not close to anywhere near full speed’

Garcon’s foot injury is not turf toe, according to head coach Mike Shanahan, but inflammation, which has kept the wide receiver out of the Washington Redskins’ lineup.

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan revealed at his Monday press conference that the lingering foot injury that kept wide receiver Pierre Garcon out of Sunday's game was not turf toe, but instead inflammation, and that Garcon was "not close to anywhere near full speed."

The receiver had an MRI on his injured second toe, which showed inflammation, to explain the soreness and pain that Shanahan said Garcon was still experiencing after practicing or trying to run full speed. The head coach said that they will continue to evaluate the injury.

Garcon sustained the injury on an 88-yard touchdown catch in the season-opening win over the New Orleans Saints. The injury has kept him out of three games this season, including the 38-26 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday. When he has played, Garcon has eight catches for 153 yards and one touchdown in 2012.

The Redskins next game is Sunday, Oct. 21, against the New York Giants.
