Nate Kaeding Injury: Headed to IR, probably won’t return as Charger

Kaeding’s last two seasons have been injury-plagued and his latest injury could signal the end of his tenure with the Chargers.

According to a tweet from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the San Diego Chargers have placed kicker Nate Kaeding on the injured reserve, possibly ending the kicker's career with the team. As soon as Kaeding is taken off the IR, the Chargers will have to release him, according to NFL.com.

Kaeding has only played in four games over the past two seasons and is currently suffering from a groin strain he suffered against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 30. He missed all but one game last season due to a knee injury. Nick Novak will be the Chargers kicker for the remainder of the season and free agent wide receiver Danario Alexander signed with the team in Kaeding's roster spot.

Kaeding is seven-for-seven in field goals this season and is 180 for 207 for his career since being drafted in the third round of the 2004 draft.

The Chargers are 3-3 this season and tied for first-place with the Denver Broncos in the AFC West.
