Week 8 NFL picks: Experts like the Broncos

The Broncos look to take control of the AFC West with a win over the improving New Orleans Saints.

Greg M. Cooper-US PRESSWIRE

The Denver Broncos had a week off to bask in the glory of scoring 35 unanswered second-half points to come from behind and beat the Chargers 35-24 in Week 6. They'll be taking on a New Orleans Saints squad fresh off its second straight win, this one over division rival Tampa Bay, 35-28. Both teams will ride into Denver with plenty of confidence and this one could turn into a duel between two of the league's best quarterbacks.

After losing a season to a neck injury, Peyton Manning has showed it's the same ol', same ol'. He's thrown for just over 1,800 yards on the season while tossing 14 touchdowns to just four interceptions. His favorite target, Demaryius Thomas, has been the beneficiary of three of those touchdown passes while averaging 16.9 yards per catch.

Despite the poor play of his team, Drew Brees is putting together another good season. He's thrown for just short of 2,100 yards and 18 touchdowns to seven interceptions. Marques Colston has caught five touchdown balls from Brees while averaging 14.8 yards per catch.

Two elite quarterbacks could make for a long night for the scoreboard operator. Although it’s a relatively even match-up, ESPN goes with the clean sweep of picks in favor of the Broncos. Yahoo! feels the same way, although it’s not a unanimous decision. CBS calls it differently, giving the 2-4 Saints the edge over the 3-3 Broncos.
