Redskins vs. Steelers game recap: Ben Roethlisberger leads Pittsburgh to 27-12 victory

The Pittsburgh Steelers remained perfect at home with a 27-12 victory over the Washington Redskins on Sunday at Heinz Field.

Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers offense were highly efficient, punting only three times as they beat the Washington Redskins, 27-12, on Sunday at Heinz Field.

Roethlisberger threw three touchdowns and completed 24 passes for 222 yards in the victory. Because of injuries, Jonathan Dwyer was once again called on to lead the Pittsburgh running game and he did, carrying 17 times for 107 yards.

Leonard Pope, Heath Miller and Will Johnson all caught touchdown passes for the Steelers.

Shaun Suisham was a perfect 2 for 2 on field goals.

Washington’s offense hurt itself a number of times, setting a season-high with 10 dropped passes on the day.

Robert Griffin III was 16 for 34 passing for 177 yards and one touchdown. The Redskins' running attack never got much going against the Steelers' defense, with Alfred Morris carrying 13 times for just 59 yards. Griffin II was held in check on the ground as well, only picking up eight yards on six carries.

The only touchdown of the game for the Redskins came in the second quarter on a 2-yard touchdown pass from Griffin III to Santana Moss. The ensuing extra point by Kai Forbath was blocked.

Forbath made both of his field goal attempts for Washington, splitting the uprights from 48 and 45 yards.

Washington falls to 3-5 on the season while Pittsburgh improves to 4-3. With the victory, the Steelers are still a perfect 3-0 on the year at home.

Fantasy studs/duds: Fantasy owners who started Ben Roethlisberger will certainly be happy with his three touchdowns and 222 yards. Robert Griffin III, despite the loss, continued to be a strong fantasy scorer, throwing for 177 yards and a touchdown. While Alfred Morris has been one of the league’s leading rushers, his fantasy owners were hurt on Sunday by his 59-yard, no touchdown performance. Odds/Gambling: The Steelers were 4.5-point favorites at home and easily covered that spread. To see more spreads and odds from around the league, visit SB Nation’s NFL Odds page.

Injury info: Pittsburgh's Ryan Clark left the game in the second half with a concussion and did not return.

Next team on the schedule: The Redskins will host the Carolina Panthers next week at 1 p.m. ET. Pittsburgh will go on the road in Week 9, travelling to face the New York Giants at 4:25 p.m. ET.
