Redskins vs. Steelers, Week 8: Roethlisberger, Dwyer key in easy win for Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Washington Redskins 27-12 in a game that wasn’t that close, allowing them to go above .500 for the first time all year after their first back-to-back wins on the year.

The Pittsburgh Steelers rolled over the Washington Redskins behind three touchdown passes by Ben Roethlisberger, winning 27-12 in a game that left the Redskins frustrated.

Pittsburgh jumped out to a 20-6 lead by the half, almost taking their feet off the pedal as they coasted to the easy victory. The victory could have been more lopsided if not for lethargic second-half play, but Steelers fans won't complain. The story of the day was Roethlisberger's strong outing, as well as a nice game from Jonathan Dwyer in the absence of Rashard Mendenhall. Neal Coolong wrote about Dwyer's play at Behind the Steel Curtain in his postgame recap.

Pittsburgh ran the ball pretty much at will, particularly in the first half, as running back Jonathan Dwyer evoked more memories of Jerome Bettis, rushing for 107 yards on 17 carries. The School Bus (homage to Bettis and the school bus-looking yellow and black striped jerseys the Steelers were wearing) became the first Steelers running back since Willie Parker in 2008 to rush for 100 or more yards in back-to-back games.

Ivan Cole tried to find negatives from the win, and for the most part wasn’t able to, except for the jerseys. For him, the play of Roethlisberger stood out as a great aspect of the win.

Ben. Aww hell. He’s doing whatever he wants now. He has the scheme, the tools and the protection. Uh oh NFL.

The win marked the first time all year Pittsburgh has strung together wins in back-to-back games. They're above .500 for the first time all year at 4-3 heading into their matchup next week with the New York Giants.
