Jordy Nelson injury: Packers WR is ‘close’

The Packers wide receiver, who worked out prior to the team’s Week 8 win despite being listed as inactive, is close to returning to action, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson is close to returning to action, according to comments made by head coach Mike McCarthy to Jason Wilde of ESPNMilwaukee.com. McCarthy told Wilde that the 6-foot-3 Nelson was able to work out before the team's 24-15 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars last Sunday despite being listed as inactive.

With wide receiver Greg Jennings shelved by a sports hernia, the Packers could use Nelson back on the field as soon as possible. Jennings had his surgery to repair the sports hernia delayed indefinitely by Hurricane Sandy, and is expected to miss three to six weeks once the procedure is completed.

In seven games for the Packers this season, the Nelson has been targeted 57 times by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, notching 40 receptions for 532 yards and 5 touchdowns.

The Packers play host to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at Lambeau Field. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on FOX.
