Nate Kaeding injury: Chargers kicker passes physical, likely gone

Kaeding’s injury history and postseason woes led to his nine-year career with the Chargers coming to an end.

According to the North County Times' Michael Gehlken, San Diego Chargers kicker Nate Kaeding passed a team physical on Tuesday morning and will be placed on waivers. The announcement comes after Kaeding spent a short stint on the injured reserve last week with a minor-injury designation.

Kaeding's health has been a major concern over the past two years as well as his postseason production. Kaeding suffered a torn ACL early in the 2011 season and suffered a groin injury in practice on Sept. 28 this season prior to the Chargers game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Despite being the most accurate regular season kicker in NFL history, the 30-year-old Kaeding made only eight of his 15 attempts in postseason play.

Kaeding was 7-for-7 this season after returning from his torn ACL. He is being replaced by Nick Novak.

If Kaeding is claimed off waivers, the team who claims him will have to pay the rest of his 2012 contract.
