Mike Thomas traded to Detroit Lions

The former Jaguars receiver heads to Detroit.

Douglas Jones-US PRESSWIRE

The NFL trade deadline has produced it's first trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars sending receiver Mike Thomas to the Detroit Lions., according to a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The Jaguars side of the compensation isn't known yet but it's likely a mid to late round pick.

The Jaguars had signed Thomas to a five-year, $19 million deal in October 2011. SB Nation’s Big Cat Country saysThomas was questionable to even make the roster this year despite the contract.

During training camp, Mike Thomas struggled to catch the football and left many to wonder if he would even make the roster or if the Jaguars would just eat his salary and release him. Thomas’ struggles continued during the 2012 season, especially returning punts and catching the football.

Thomas was a 2009 fourth round pick by the Jaguars and in four seasons with the team he peaked with 820 yards receiving and four touchdowns in his second season in Jacksonville.

Thomas will be joining a group of Lions receivers that includes a former Jaguar in Kassim Osgood, as well as Calvin Johnson and Titus Young.
