NFL trade deadline: Panthers turning down Steve Smith offers

Steve Smith doesn’t appear to be going anywhere with the trade deadline approaching.

Jeremy Brevard-US PRESSWIRE

Through the highs and lows of a 12-year career, Steve Smith has remained with the Carolina Panthers. And that doesn't figure to change with the NFL trade deadline approaching. According to a tweet from Fox Sports NFL reporter Jay Glazer, the Panthers are turning down any offers for the team's marquee pass catcher.

It’s been a disappointing season in Carolina to say the least, with second-year quarterback Cam Newton struggling and the team in last place in the NFC South at 1-6. Smith has done his part, though, despite having no touchdowns. He has 35 receptions for 589 yards, good for a 16.8 yards-per-reception average.

Aside from Newton, Smith is the face of the Panthers and has been for a long time. He’s the franchise’s all-time leader in touchdowns, receptions and receiving yards. Smith has made five Pro Bowls, is a 3-time All-Pro and was a big part of the team’s run to the Super Bowl in 2003.
