Danny Amendola injury: Rams WR nearing a return

By the NFL’s definition, “questionable” means a player has a 50-50 chance of playing. The fourth-year receiver was limited in practice this week.

The Rams play the Patriots at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday. The team flew to London on Monday to get acclimated to their surroundings.

Amendola returned to practice this week and was a limited participant on Wednesday and Thursday. Neither Amendola nor Fisher had ruled out the Texas Tech product playing Sunday, despite reports earlier in the week to the contrary.

Amendola participated in some parts of the team’s practice -- including individual drills, pass-catching and punt returning -- on Wednesday, according to the article, but was officially listed as limited on the Rams’ injury report.

Prior to the injury, Amendola had recorded a team-leading 32 receptions for 395 yards and two touchdowns.

Amendola was quickly ushered off to the locker room, where he unleashed his frustration on his helmet, for a further look. Per team reports, he has a broken collarbone.

The typical recovery time from for a broken collarbone is four to six weeks, and this is a big blow to the Rams’ offense. Coming into Thursday’s game, Amendola had 31 receptions, which was good enough for second in the NFL. He also had a pair of touchdowns while averaging 11.3 yards per catch.

Amendola has been the Rams’ leading receiver this season by a wide margin, with 31 catches for 351 yards and two touchdowns entering tonight’s game. He had caught one pass for 44 yards against the Cardinals before being injured. Amendola was also the team’s primary punt returner.

Despite losing Danny Amendola, the Rams lead the Arizona Cardinals 10-3 early in the third quarter.
