A sputtering offensive performance led to the Washington Redskins losing their Week 5 contest against the visiting Atlanta Falcons, 24-17, Sunday at FedEx Field. Managing just one big play -- a 77-yard touchdown pass from Kirk Cousins to wide receiver Santana Moss in the third quarter -- after starting quarterback Robert Griffin III was knocked out of the game by Falcons' linebacker Sean Weatherspoon, the Redskins lost for the third time in four games.

Despite losing 24-17 to the Atlanta Falcons Sunday, the Washing Redskins showed some guts.

According to the SB Nation blog Hogs Haven, the sluggish offensive performance by both teams was not what experts and fans had predicted.
Many though the Redskins-Falcons match up this week was going to be a high octane shootout featuring a pair of the NFL's top offenses. This was not the case as both teams went to halftime tied at seven, with the Redskins sole touchdown being an interception by Ryan Kerrigan. The first half was also capped off by a missed 31 yard field goal by Billy Cundiff, who has most likely played his last game as a Redskin.
Despite the lack of points, Washington played with one of the best teams in the NFL. The loss may have helped the Falcons remain unbeaten at 5-0, but it also showed the Skins’ have some moxy.
The Redskins high points of this game has to be the continued stellar play of rookie running back Alfred Morris, who once again eclipsed 100 yards registering 135 total yards in the game. The other high point had to be the Redskins defense who were able to contain the high flying Falcons for most of the game.
Next week, the Redskins will try and snap a nine-game losing streak at home when they host the Minnesota Vikings. Kickoff is schedule for 4:25 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on FOX.
