Bills Vs. 49ers, Week 5: ‘Soul-Sucking Defeat’

The Buffalo Bills were blown out for the third time in five weeks, losing 45-3 to the San Francisco 49ers, who set a franchise record for total offense in the game.

The Buffalo Bills were absolutely pounded by the San Francisco 49ers, losing 49-3 and allowing 621 yards of total offense as they were blown out for the second consecutive week.

The offense sputtered, only converting two of ten first downs and failing to put the ball in the end zone all game, while the defense allowed 300 yards each through the air and on the ground. Needless to say, Brian Galliford of Buffalo Rumblings did not take the loss well:

I’d give you more stats, but they’re also hilariously mind-numbingly grotesque that you already get the point. It’s so bad, in fact, that everything else that happened in the game - the turnovers, the tepid coaching and the quitting - are completely and utterly irrelevant.

Galliford points out that Buffalo has been outscored by a whopping 97-31 in its last two games. Although the team looked promising with a pair of convincing victories over Cleveland and Kansas City, those teams are a combined 1-9, while the Bills have been outscored by 86 points in their other three games. They're only a game back of the Patriots, who have the AFC lead, but not much has gone well for the Bills in their matchups against teams approaching decency this season.
