AFC West injury report: Matt Cassel suffers head injury

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel left the game against the Baltimore Ravens with a head injury on Sunday afternoon.

John Rieger-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The Kansas City Chiefs got a scare in the fourth quarter when quarterback Matt Cassel was hit by two Baltimore Ravens players and suffered what appeared to be a head injury. Cassel walked to the sideline, went into the locker room and was replaced by backup Brady Quinn. There has been no word yet on Cassel's status and if he will be ready for the Chiefs' contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Sunday.

Cassel's teammate Peyton Hillis was inactive against the Ravens, with Shaun Draughn assuming second-string responsibilities. The running back has been dealing with an ankle injury and missed his second-straight game.

After losing starting center J.D. Williams last weekend and placing him on injured reserve, the Denver Broncos managed to leave New England relatively healthy.

The San Diego Chargers, who dropped their matchup with the New Orleans Saints, also dodged injuries on Sunday night. San Diego was without kicker Nate Kaeding, who is dealing with a right groin injury, and is considered day-to-day.

For the Oakland Raiders, who sat out this week on a bye, Darrius Heyward-Bey practiced last Tuesday for the first time since suffering a concussion and sprained neck in Week 3. Heyward-Bey and the Raiders are hoping the wide receiver can return for Oakland's next contest against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 6.
