Patriots owner Robert Kraft dubbed Bill Belichick a ‘schmuck’ after ‘Spygate’

Patriots owner Robert Kraft dressed down his head coach in the wake of the video-taping incident.

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft was none to pleased with head coach Bill Belichick in the wake of "Spygate," Mr. Hoodie's effort to secretly record opponents' practice sessions in the hopes of getting a competitive edge. Kraft called his employee a "schmuck" in the wake of the scandal.

Kraft’s words to Belichick are recollected in a new book called “Coaching Confidential: Inside the Fraternity of NFL Coaches,” by Gary Myers of the New York Daily News. Kraft also told Myers that he confronted Belichick about the taping, and the Boston Globe recounts the incident in a preview of the book, which will be released on Tuesday.

Kraft asked his head coach, “how much did this help us on a scale of 1 to 100?”

“One,” Belichick said.

“Then you’re a real schmuck,” Kraft responded.

Kraft goes on to say that he never thought about firing his head coach in the wake of the incident, news that may shock the non-Patriots fans out there.

Myers' book gives fans an insider's view of the NFL's coaching ranks, including chapters on Andy Reid, Joe Gibbs, and others.
