After officials completely ignored the gaffe during the game, the National Football League officially released a statement on Monday saying that a Week 10 touchdown return by Denver's Trindon Holliday should have been reviewed, as reported by Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com.
Trindon Holliday TD return should have been reviewed, says NFL
The NFL released a statement on Monday admitting that Trindon Holliday’s touchdown return against the Panthers should have been reviewed.

Holliday scored during an electric 76-yard punt return early in the second quarter against the Panthers on Sunday, on a play that served to completely shift the momentum to Denver's side with a 14-7 advantage. But even though numerous replays later proved that Holliday had lost control of the ball before he actually entered the end zone, the touchdown still was not overturned by officials to the dismay of viewers across the country. The correct call on the field would have instantly awarded Holliday a fumble lost and given the ball to Cam Newton's Panthers at their own 20-yard line.
The league went to great lengths to point out that all scoring plays would be reviewed in full this season in order to clear up any inconsistencies. And yet, even on a play where no defenders were remotely close to Holliday, it was automatically assumed that he scored a touchdown. While it is obvious that the league can’t be too pleased about missing something so significant, this admitted error should only force the league to double and triple-check plays of this nature from here on out.
