The rain, which is already at a constant, light drizzle, may cause an interesting dynamic if conditions get slippery enough, especially as Heinz Field is notoriously sloppy when the rain comes down. Despite a 1-7 record, the Kansas City Chiefs are the third-best rushing team in the NFL. Feature-back Jamaal Charles, along with Shaun Draughn and Peyton Hillis, power a Chiefs run game that averages 150 yards per game.
The Steelers, however, are pass-centric behind big Ben Roethlisberger. Leading rushers Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman combine for less yards than Kansas City's Charles has by himself. An overly-wet surface and ball could make this game, currently with a 13-point spread, a bit more interesting.
The forecast for kickoff is 46 degrees with rain showers and a west wind at 13 miles per hour. By the second half, the temperature is expected to drop to 42 degrees with continued rain and a nine mile-per-hour wind. Already, the wind’s effects are being felt, as the grounds crew know all too well.
