AFC North injury report: Ben Roethlisberger suffers ‘unusual’ separated shoulder

Ben Roethlisberger is a new name on the Pittsburgh Steelers' extensive injury list, as the quarterback injured his shoulder Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs and is questionable to play Sunday.

The exact nature of the injury that forced Roethlisberger out in the third quarter of Monday night's game is uncertain: some sources reported that it was a sprain, others indicating it was a separation, specifically, an "unusual" one. Either way, Roethlisberger was forced out of the game on the team's first drive of the second half and transported to a hospital for tests. The severity of the injury is likely to become more clear Tuesday morning as doctors perform additional tests. The team didn't score any touchdowns after Roethlisberger left the 16-13 win, with Byron Leftwich only completing 7 of 14 passes for 73 yards, but it hadn't looked great on a windy, rainy evening behind Roethlisberger either, as he only went 9-for-18 for 84 yards.

Rashard Mendenhall, Troy Polamalu, and Antonio Brown all sat out Monday, but all have the potential to return Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. Mendenhall and Polamalu have both been injured for several weeks in their second stint of missed games on the season, but sat this week with an expectation they might be able to go for Baltimore. Brown's injury was initially reported as causing him to miss only a single game, but his ankle injury was said to possibly be more serious, causing him to miss additional games.

Ed Reed left the Ravens' game with a stinger in his right shoulder, although he might have just been sitting since the team was well on its way to a 55-20 romp over the Oakland Raiders.

The Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals both did not suffer any major injuries in their games on Sunday.
