Quincy Black injury update: Bucs LB placed on injured reserve

Buccaneers linebacker lands on IR after suffering a neck injury during Sunday’s win against the Chargers.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have placed linebacker Quincy Black on the injured reserve list, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times is reporting.

Black, 28, was carted off the field during Sunday's 34-24 victory after suffering a neck injury that stemmed from a helmet-to-helmet collision with San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews.

Black, who was able to walk out of the hospital after an evaluation Sunday night, was reportedly having left arm complications which could be a sign of spinal cord damage.

Head coach Greg Schiano said Monday it was too early to tell if Black’s injury is career threatening.

Black is a former third-round selection of the 2007 NFL Draft that has spent his whole career with the Bucs’ organization.

Before the injury, Black compiled 25 tackles and two fumble recoveries in nine games. He has a career total of 203 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks. Last July, Black signed a five-year, $29-million contract with Tampa Bay.

The Buccaneers visit the Carolina Panthers (1 p.m. on FOX) this coming Sunday.
