Even though his starting quarterback is currently dealing with a very serious concussion at the moment, Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher once again reiterated his plan to lie about a possible head injury in order to stay on the field, reported by Andrew Seligman of The Associated Press.

Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher does not appear worried about the effects of a concussion, and stated once again that he’d lie about suffering one to stay in the game.

The 34-year-old Urlacher originally made comments to HBO earlier in the year that he would do anything in his power to keep playing with a concussion, prompting a significant amount of backlash from around the league. But when the subject was broached again this week with reporters due to the fact that Bears starting quarterback Jay Cutler is currently on the mend with his own head injury, Urlacher still did not back down on his previous stance.
When asked if he would deceive coaches to remain in the game knowing he likely had a concussion, the Pro Bowler readily admitted that he wasn’t sure “how you can lie these days with all the (stuff) they have to see who’s concussed and not.”
Concussions remain a hot-button issue for the sport right now, and comments like this are the last thing that commissioner Roger Goodell wants to hear from one of his players. Urlacher may be correct in his assessment that the league is attending to and diagnosing concussions quicker than ever, but players like Urlacher won’t make things much easier if they are actively trying to hide their symptoms.
