NFL coaching rumors: Mike Holmgren would only consider coaching in Dallas, according to report

According to a report from ESPN’s Ed Werder, outgoing Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren would be interested in the Dallas Cowboys head coaching position, if it were to become available.

Mike Holmgren, the outgoing president of the Cleveland Browns, could have a new job next season: head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Via Ed Werder of ESPN:

A source told ESPN's Ed Werder that the Cowboys job is the only one that could prompt the Super Bowl-winning coach to consider a return to the sideline. The source said Holmgren believes the Cowboys have the talent to win a Super Bowl -- current record notwithstanding.

Of course, the Cowboys do currently have a coach in Jason Garrett, but if he were to be fired, it’s not a stretch to see Dallas owner Jerry Jones hiring a proven coach in Holmgren.

In his career, Holmgren has amassed a 174-122 overall record, 13-11 in the postseason. He captured a Super Bowl championship in 1996 as head coach for the Green Bay Packers, and made another Super Bowl appearance as head man for the Seattle Seahawks. Holmgren has been president of the Browns since 2010.

It has been rumored that the 64-year-old Holmgren would only return to coaching in the proper situation with a team ready to contend, such as the Cowboys. Teams such as Jacksonville would not interest Holmgren in a return to the sideline.
